On December 9th, 2016 it was announced that PlaneTechs was ranked the #1 Military Friendly Employer by Victory Media for businesses under 500m revenue. But what does it mean to be the #1 Military Friendly Company? How does PlaneTechs serve the men and women that are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for our country?
PlaneTechs puts Veterans first through a program called “Working Heroes”.
Working Heroes is a nationwide initiative to help experienced veterans and transitioning service members find rewarding employment opportunities with highly regarded PlaneTechs customers. Through the program, recruiters help transitioning service men and women translate their military skills into the civilian sector. Our team pairs them with customers in need of their expertise on a temporary basis with the intent to bring them on as direct employees. Customers often provide assistance with tools, toolboxes, and in some cases the opportunity to test for Airframe and Powerplant Licenses.
As we know, the aviation mechanic shortage is all too real. There is an industry wide shortage of skills and an aging maintenance workforce. PlaneTechs management saw an opportunity to help transitioning service men and women find civilian jobs, while also helping customers facing labor shortages.
PlaneTechs SVP and General Manager, Tom Hodgins said, “Our Customers are feeling the effects of the shortage of aviation mechanics and technicians. Veterans are a vital part of building the next gen workforce and help expand the skilled talent pool our customers demand. Our Working Heroes Veteran Placement Program demonstrates how valuable veterans are as civilian employees.”
HISTORY OF WORKING HEROES
Working Heroes began on Veterans Day in 2014 with a single location bringing in a few Veterans at a time. Today, this program is nationwide thanks to the hard work and commitment of PlaneTechs recruiters, executives, loyal customers and most importantly, the hard working Veterans who have made this program a success. Our Working Heroes team is made up of veterans so they understand the challenges facing transitioning service members.
FUTURE OF WORKING HEROES
2017 sees Working Heroes increasing the amount of customer partners by an estimated 50% with an estimated 70% increase in the amount of open positions exclusively for Veterans. Working Heroes Recruiting Manager, Pat Moran took a look back and toward the future: “As I look back on the last 3 years I remember all the lessons we’ve learned and all the growing pains that we’ve worked through. We did not get to this point overnight and we still have room to improve. But every day we strive to do just that because our mission is so much more than just hiring another contractor. We’re helping veterans start a career, provide for their families, and continue to do a job that they love. I know that in 2017 we will continue to expand this program and I can’t wait to see how much further we can grow.”
