PlaneTechs Honors Veterans
On Veterans Day 2014, PlaneTechs created a nationwide initiative called “Working Heroes”, which helps experienced veterans and transitioning service members find employment with PlaneTechs customers. Our team pairs them with customers in need of their expertise on a temporary basis, with the intent of bringing them on as direct employees. Customers often provide assistance with tools, toolboxes, and in some cases the opportunity to test for Airframe and Powerplant Licenses. Ultimately, our goal is to help experienced and transitioning service members find employment opportunities in the aviation maintenance industry.
“Helping our Veterans transition into meaningful, full–time employment is a top priority for PlaneTechs,” said PlaneTechs Senior Vice President and General Manager Tom Hodgins. “As the demand for aviation mechanics and technicians continues to outpace the supply, our customers depend on us to provide high-quality solutions and talent. That is exactly what our Working Heroes program delivers.”
For many years, PlaneTechs has ranked as the top 10 gold level military friendly employer by Victory Media for businesses under 500m – an accolade which is a testament to our dedication to serve those who’ve served our country. “Our mission is so much more than just hiring aviation mechanics and technicians. We’re helping Veterans start a career, provide for their families, and continue to do a job they love” said Patrick Moran, PlaneTechs Working Heroes Recruiting Manager.
Since the creation of the Working Heroes program, PlaneTechs has placed over 400 Military Veterans in MRO facilities across the country. Of those, an estimated 53% are now direct employees or actively pursuing direct positions.
PlaneTechs Veteran Testimonial: This is a great program for military mechanics looking to start a civilian career in aviation. The program designed by PlaneTechs is top notch. I was contacted by a PlaneTechs recruiter who thoroughly explained the Working Heroes program. The entrance process was seamless and easy. Upon arrival at my new job, I was loaned a toolbox that I was able to buy later. Being new to civilian, commercial, aviation, I was a bit nervous and did not know what to expect. The majority of leads and fellow mechanics helped me learn the paperwork for the line I would be working on and also baby-stepped me to becoming a well-rounded mechanic. I learned how to operate a variety of lifts and through the help of my lead, was able to overcome my fear of heights for the most part. After about 6 months, I was offered a direct position at a competitive rate. I have been at with the company for about 14 months and they sent me to a course that helped me get my Airframe and Powerplant certificate. I could not have done it without the extraordinary and highly successful program introduced to me by PlaneTechs. Thank you – Carol Hogan
